
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): The City Law College Students’ Union (CLCSU) has submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University to provide a written assurance from the university that it will take care of medical expenses if there is any outbreak of COVID-19 among students while appearing for the forthcoming offline examinations.
The union’s President, Lino Chishi and General Secretary, Ramdihei informed that the University Grant Commission (UGC) had decided to hold semester exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with semester exams to be held by the October 1 in either fully offline (pen and paper), fully online or blended (offline +online) mode.
“COVID-19 cases have been rising exponentially over the past few days in Nagaland,” the union stated. “As the nation is swamped into combating the Covid-19 pandemic, the management and the faculty is trying its best to help out the students to progress in this peculiar situation and we appreciate that,” it said.
However, the union stated that there are “various threats and numerous difficulties” faced by students in this unprecedented situation.
“Therefore, considering the seriousness of the pandemic, we the students have decided in unison to request your authority for assurances in written form that incase of outbreak of COVID-19 disease among the students while appearing the forth coming offline examination, the university will take care of the expense of medical bill and compensate if so ever,” the union’s memo stated.
It asked the Nagaland University to provide a written assurance on the same by October 4 before 12 noon “so that we the students may sit in the exam without fear.” It cautioned that failure to do so would compel the union to take its “own course of action.”
