LUMAMI, November 3 (MExN): The 19th All India Conference of Chinese Studies (AICCS) 2026, jointly organised by the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), New Delhi, and the Department of Political Science, Nagaland University (NU), concluded at Lumami on October 30.
The three-day conference, held from October 28 to 30, brought together scholars from over 27 institutions across India to discuss China’s political economy, governance, technological advancement and strategic relations.
As per the State DIPR, the conference received 90 abstracts, of which 54 papers were selected for presentation across 11 thematic panels and two special panels.
The discussions examined challenges facing China Studies in India, including gaps in research infrastructure, Chinese language education and faculty availability in the Northeast. Sessions also explored artificial intelligence (AI), digital governance, critical mineral supply chains, semiconductor infrastructure, cybersecurity and the implications of technological dependence for national security.
The valedictory session highlighted the need for independent, evidence-based research on China using primary sources, alongside stronger interdisciplinary approaches and greater participation of young scholars, particularly from the Northeast. Speakers also discussed AI-related concerns, including digital inequality, employment displacement, ethical issues and dependence on foreign technologies.
The conference concluded with a call to deepen empirical research, strengthen interdisciplinary and comparative scholarship, and build India’s institutional capacity for China Studies, the report added.
The 20th AICCS is scheduled to be hosted by Chanakya University, Bengaluru, in 2027.
