Kohima, October 21 (MExN): A two-day tournament of Open Futsal and Basketball organised by Lerie Youth Organisation was held on October 18 and 19 at St. Mary's Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Lerie in Kohima.
In futsal category, Samsung FC emerged as the champions while Team Amplified won the Basketball championship title.
Samsung FC pocketed Rs. 20000 and runners up Tuborg FC got Rs. 10000. The individual prize of top scorer was shared by Seyie Kire of Predator and Vethizo of Naga Jaguars.
Team Amplified, the winner of the Basketball championship received a cash prize of Rs. 20000 sponsored by Beizo Khamo and runners-up Kohima Chief was awarded Rs. 10000. Khriebeilie Sorhie of Kohima Chief was adjusted as MVP.
During the prize distribution ceremony, prizes for the basketball even were given away by Visazo Thenuo, Convenor, organising committee.
The Futsal prizes were given away by William Koso, National Football Coach Head of Youth Development, Aizawl FC.
Earlier on October 18, the inaugural futsal match was inaugurated by GB, T Peter Solo, while the first basketball match was graced by Chubatoshi, a home evangelist.
A total of 28 teams participated in the futsal and six teams took part in the basketball tournament.
President LYO William Koso in a press release informed that the tournament was organised as a fundraiser for the upcoming Lerie Youth Organisation Silver Jubilee. He also extended his appreciation to the principal St Mary’s School and the sponsors for extending their help towards the youth organisation.
