Dimapur, January 16 (MExN): The ICAR—National Meat Research Institute (NMRI), Hyderabad has been actively working in the North-East to promote livestock enterprises and meat processing entrepreneurship, officials said.
As part of the initiative, ICAR—NMRI organised a training programme on “Meat Processing and Entrepreneurship Development Opportunities in North-East India” on January 14, in collaboration with the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Dimapur, Nagaland.
The training programme was attended by more than 45 livestock farmers and aspiring entrepreneurs. Dr Suresh Devatkal, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NIVIRI, conducted the training and highlighted the vast scope for entrepreneurship in meat processing and the role of ICAR-NMRI in supporting such ventures.
Dr Vikshe Sumi delivered a lecture on pig farming and pork production, while Dr Michael Imti Imchen spoke on poultry farming.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Sentinungla Ao, Chief Veterinary Officer, Dimapur, along with Dr Bocto Sumi. Several women entrepreneurs expressed keen interest in starting meat processing and value addition enterprises, while four to five potential young entrepreneurs were identified and selected for further advanced training.
Short speeches were also delivered by Dr Sunitibala Devi, Scientist, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Jharnapani, and Dr Pusazonu Chusi, Joint Director, Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Kohima.
The Chief Veterinary Officer, Dimapur, on behalf of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, expressed gratitude to ICAR-NMRI, Hyderabad for successfully conducting the training and expressed hope for more collaborative opportunities in the future.
