No Electricity No Food
Many times we talk about change/ development/peace of our state and the other advancing countries in the world in various fields. But today back at home here in Nagaland we have many things to learn and educate our people in many ways. We all know that in olden days our forefather’s generation’s people can survive even without the light. They just go to field in the morning and work for whole day and come back home in the evening for their yearly survival. And the necessity of Electricity was not so much important to the farmers. But today not a single minute we spent without electricity. People tent to struggle because we all know that the Electricity is life (NO LIGHT NO FOOD) situation we are living in today. We have come across situation in the past that whenever there is rain, wind, cold winter, summer with high temperature there will be frequent power cut in most places especially in Dimapur, without any public information which is very unprofessional on the part of the concern Department. Our public has enough patience for hours of hours to wait till the light comes without any movement or protest in any place so far knowing grievances of the department, where as in developed countries incase of power failure for 5 minutes or more public protest will start as soon as possible. But in Nagaland we take it everything very lightly and let it go. But this is a matter of concern for every citizen in Nagaland to wake up and bring some reformation in our society without delay. Our society needs change today. Apart from other districts in Nagaland, place like Dimapur we cannot live without light especially summer season, most schools children have their exams during this time without light studies are badly affected. Most of the household has got electronic home appliance like TV, Refrigerator, Computers, Air conditioner, etc etc for daily needs. Apart from home, most of the Government office has computer set up which is easier and faster in any work. Not only that nowadays many local entrepreneurs have established small scale industries in Dimapur functions by electricity, without which the industries compels to stop without smooth functioning. And these are some problem faced by the public in Nagaland particularly in Dimapur which is the only commercial hub in Nagaland.
On the part of the consumers we should also think that electricity is a commodity to buy not just used it because it’s run by Government. You pay and use it judiciously and not waste unnecessarily. We can see that many consumers knows how to use it but not willing to pay the bill which is a sad story for the public, its high time for our Naga people willing to change our mindset and attitude for better living. Need no rejoinder on this write up because it’s a positive thought for better changes in our Naga society today. God bless Naga People.

Who is the responsible for Wokha Town Development?
My profession as Social Worker and Public service compel me to settle at Wokha Town for the last 16 years. Since then, I have been observing that Wokha Town is growing up like grass in the field such as Population, Household, Govt. Departments, Institutions, Private Agencies, Churches, Market and Shops, Colonies, etc. I have visited many Towns and Cities in India and had visited other countries. I have seen all round development and advancement in other place. But whenever, I come back to my Home Sweet Home-Wokha Town, I feel very discourage. I know that many Lotha People are also visiting Towns and Cities in India and abroad. I do not know how they feel when they come back and see the Roads and other Infrastructures at Wokha Town ? Only God knows..! As we all know, India is one of the G-20 member and also inviting to attend G-8 summit time to time. Therefore, India is trying her best to compete with the World and other advanced countries. In this connection, the Govt. of India is providing a lot of funds for all round development in the States, Districts and Villages. In short, Wokha Town is the Mirror of Wokha district but it turns to Horror of Wokha district. In fact, Wokha Town is the only District capital in Nagaland where even Auto can play every corner of the Town. But it is very far behind in development comparing from other Districts. What about Electricity and Water supply? The Mother Nature has given us everything and plenty but Lotha people do not know how to utilize! We all know that Wokha district is also getting a lot of funds from the Government for all kinds of development. Then who is the responsible for Wokha Town Development? Some of the responsible agencies are:
1) The elected 4 MLAs (Minister and Parliamentary Secretaries).
2) Wokha District Administration and Concern Officials.
3) District Urban Development Agencies.
4) Department of District Planning.
5) Wokha Town Council.
6) Road & Bridges (PWD).
In addition and many times I ask to myself…
1) Every month there is Wokha DPDB meeting with the elected members. Is there any Agenda and Action
Plan for maintenance of the Wokha Town Roads?
2) Every year how much Funds the Wokha District is getting and where the Fund goes ?
3) Are the Land Owners and General Public giving co-operation for development ?
4) How the Contractors are implementing the Works and Projects ?
My dear Citizens and Friends, Come! Let us reason together and make a better place to live in. As
Christians, let us try to remember that we are all accountable to God and society..
