Peren Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru said that Peren is the only planned Model District Headquarter in the state.
The District Headquarter has a total area of 3715.11 acres.
“It has a Master Plan and we are strictly developing the District headquarter as per the Master Plan be it the width of road, the specified area demarcated for offices, educational institutions, residential area for officials, staff etc. and for private allottee,” Meru said while addressing an official programme at District headquarter, Peren on Monday.
He acknowledged the contribution of the Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang “whose visionary leadership has made this district headquarter what it is today.”
He said that road connectivity have been a major challenge for the district in general and the District Headquarter in particular.
Today, under the North Eastern Special Infrastructure Development Schemes (NESIDS), the road from Jalukiepungchi to the District Headquarter and the road from New Peren village to Peren Town is under construction.
“After completion of these roads, the district headquarters will he well connected,” Meru said.
The Peren District Planning & Development Board has recently declared the District Headquarter as the “Green District Headquarter,” and accordingly, the same was communicated to the Urban Development department.
He said that hunting, fishing and burning of jungle have been banned in the district headquarter.
The District Land Record & Survey officer has recently suggested for a community park in various locations.
Today, the District Headquarter has approximately 70 households and 250 population including students at Peren Government College and the Government Polytechnic.
This year, the office of the Assistant Election Officer and the office of the Senior Treasury Officer has been made functional from the District Headquarter, the DC informed.
