Phek College attain 25 yrs, Shurhozelie assures EDUSAT

Phek Government College, Phek, celebrated its silver jubilee on July 28 last with minister for higher education and urban development Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister gave an assurance to install EDUSAT facility in the college so that the College could march with the latest modern technology. The minister stated that he would take up this facility as soon as the building is completed. 

Dr. Liezietsu also stressed on the need to attain quality education in this competitive world and at the same time challenged the teaching community and students to strive harder in their search for greater excellence.

Dr. Liezietsu was accompanied by minister for agriculture, printing and stationery Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu and Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Deo Nukhu. Nagaland’s Chief Secretary Lalhuma penned in the college souvenir, “It was my privilege to be associated with the ‘birthing’ of Phek College during my tenure as Deputy Commissioner. This was a team effort and credit, if any, must be shared among its many founding fathers.”

DIG, Nagaland J. Changkija, IPS said “I fondly recollect my association with the Phek College as it was then called and the enthusiasm and zeal shown by the local people and the government servants who were posted at Phek during the late 1980s which motivated me as the commandant 5 NAP and my staff to contribute our little bit for the cause of spreading higher education in the Phek district.”

Conveying greeting, Finance Commissioner HK Khulu said “It seems just like yesterday when I had been associated with the College during my stint as deputy commissioner Phek in the early nineties and it gives me a great sense of satisfaction that the college, which has started in a humble way, is now completing 25 years of its existence.”

“The Phek government college was established on July 28, 1981 as private college without proper building and infrastructure facilities. Fortunately, the government has taken over the college on Ist February, 1990, today it has become one of the best institution in Nagaland,” Phek DC Sachopra Vero penned. He added that the introduction of science stream was one of the land mark achievements in the history of the college.

“I am particularly glad that Science Stream could be introduced during my time as the minister in charge of higher education. This will fulfill the vision of producing scientists and technical manpower in future”, said Deo Nukhu, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board.

Dr. Piketo Sema, Director Higher Education also penned “Today, we have both Arts and Science Streams in Phek Government College. The progress of the college has been satisfactory. May the institution come up as guiding light and lead the people to better future.”
