Phek Government College faculty, students and guests during the 44th Freshers’ Meet held at Deo Nukhu Hall on August 7.
PHEK, AUGUST 7 (MExN): Phek Government College held its 44th Freshers’ Meet at the Deo Nukhu Hall on August 7, with Deputy Commissioner Phek Rhosietho Nguori, NCS, as the guest of honour.
The programme began with an invocation by Seyielenuo Nisa, Assistant Professor, Department of History, followed by a welcome address by Vevolu Khamo, Associate Professor, Department of Education.
The programme also featured the felicitation of meritorious students. The L. Mefutiba Award, instituted in 2018 by L. Mefutiba, then Principal of Phek Government College, carries a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and is presented to the BA/BSc final-year student securing the highest CGPA in the undergraduate examinations under Nagaland University.
Vemutulu Vero of the Department of Political Science received the award for securing the highest CGPA of 8.03. The Meritorious Award instituted by the Department of Education for the highest CGPA in Education was awarded to Veduvolu Khamo, who secured a CGPA of 6.85.
Addressing the gathering, Nguori encouraged the freshers to make responsible choices in life. He said “choice” is an important tool available to every individual and carries the power to determine the direction of one’s life.
Drawing attention to the relationship between success and failure, he said that just as both good and bad experiences are part of life, failure is also a part of the journey towards success. He noted that while people have no choice over life and death, the space between them—life—provides an opportunity to make decisions and choose one’s path.
Nguori urged the students to take responsibility for their lives and make wise choices, reminding them that decisions made today would have consequences in the future.
