The 13th July 2011.
To
Shri Neiphiu Rio
The Hon’ble Chief Minister,
Government of Nagaland.
Subject:- Memorandum on the assasination bid on the life of Ms. M.Imtila Jamir,Registrar of Co-Operative Societies, Nagaland (Rtd)
Respected Sir,
With due respect, we the undersigned on behalf of Naga women in the state seek your immediate attention and intervention on the following:
1. That, considering the magnitude of the heinous crime perpetrated on the innocent retired lady officer Ms. M. Imtila Jamir, a Joint Action Committee consisting of representatives from all women organisations of different tribes has been formed to seek for justice on the shocking armed violence.
2. That, it is highly objectionable the Home Minister of Nagaland had not given appointment to the Naga women citing vague excuses, despite the urgency of the matter. The enclosed memorandum as Annexure ‘A’ was submitted to his PS at his official residence on the morning of 18th June 2011 by the women leaders, but the PS refused to accept the said memorandum saying the Minister was not at home. The Committee has viewed this very seriously.
3. That, despite strong protests and appeals, it is most unfortunate the SIT/Police has failed to arrest the absconding culprit Mr. Worshim Kashung till date.
4. That the matter is even more serious as the said culprit had the courage and audacity to ring up and threaten the victim Ms. Imtila Jamir from the same mobile number on the night of 28th June at 10:45 PM. The Joint Action Committee condemns that her life has been threatened on the very night the leaders of the Action Committee of the Watsu Mongdang and the Ao Senden met the Collective Leadership at New Delhi at 9:30 PM. It is highly questionable that barely an hour after the memorandum was submitted to the Collective leadership for action, the culprit resorted to threatening the lady officer again.
5. That, in its meeting of all Tribe representatives of women organisation in Nagaland, held on the 9th July at Kohima, the House has unanimously condemned the failure to arrest the culprit and the continuing threat of violence on the traumatized lady officer. Therefore, considering the sequence of events in the assassination bid and the latest incident of threatening the victim, the Joint Action Committee demands that the State Government immediately initiate prompt action through the Ceasefire Monitoring group as a priority issue. We demand that the accomplice who is in the custody of the NSCN/GPRN be handed over to the police for action as per the law. We demand immediate action in adherence to the clause of the Ceasefire Ground Rules to protect the security and in the interest of the victim and family and Naga women as a whole and arrest the culprit, wherever he may be.
Sir, we believe that you will stand for justice and ensure women’s right to peace and security in the state and initiate prompt action on the urgent matter placed before your esteemed office.
Yours sincerely,
