PUNGRO, JANUARY 17 (MExN): The 16th edition of the Saramati Soccer Championship 2025, held under the theme “Victory through Teamwork,” concluded on January 17 at public ground, Pungro.
According to a report from the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Pujenvong FC emerged as the champions, while Tsuwong FC claimed the runner-up position. The tournament was organized by the Saramati Nexus Club in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland.
During the closing ceremony, the Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, S Keoshu Yimkhiung, was the special guest. He emphasized that sporting talent should be viewed not as a “time pass” activity but as a serious pursuit that requires dedication. He also stressed the importance of creating platforms for young athletes to showcase their abilities.
Yimkhiung encouraged the players to concentrate on honing their skills and talents, and further highlighted the role of sports in promoting fitness culture and raising awareness about health issues, including the prevention of tobacco use and other harmful substances among youth. He also expressed hope that such events would encourage players to aim for higher levels of competition.
The presidential address was delivered by Throngso K, while speeches were also given by Hosito Elias, Convener of the Mini Hornbill Festival 2025, and Additional Director of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.
A special musical performance was presented by Lensola, while Fr. Peter Pithungo, Parish Priest of St. Parish Pungro, delivered the invocation. The program was chaired by Adelin, General Secretary of Saramati Nexus Club.
