Dimapur, Oct 20 (MExN): The Parliamentary Secretary for Floods and Irrigation Department, MC Konyak said that different governmental departments face many hurdles and obstacles from various fronts while implementing developmental works like lack of civic sense, claiming of land compensation and the demand made by various organizations. He was speaking at the programme for commissioning and handing over function of the 8 KVA hydel unit from New-Rew Cannal at Punglwa village as Chief Guest.
Commenting on the present Naga society, he said that that it is high time for the Naga brothers to make humble contribution to promote peace for a better tomorrow. “Nagas just preach long list of propaganda regretfully without being practical and sincere enough to bring it to reality and we are all liars,” said Konyak. However, he lauded his colleagues (his department) for the recent successful completion of the project, in spite of the budgetary constraints and lack of man-power. He appealed to the villagers to safeguard and judiciously utilize the project.
Speaking about the present government, Konyak said, “The DAN government within a span of three years has completed many projects and many still to be done as a mark of (the) Year of Farmers.” Vatsu Meru, MLA, who also attended the programme as Guest of Honour appreciated the dynamic leadership of MC Konyak, and said that Konyak has done a lot of developmental activities especially for the farmers and the Peren district. He also called the villagers to maintain and utilize the project best as they can. Meru further asked the Flood and Irrigation Department to assist the farmers financially and technically within Jalukie valley so that the name Jalukie, which means the ‘Rice bowl of Nagaland’would be true to its name.
The said pilot project took four years starting from 2001-2 up to 2005-6 with a capacity of 10 KV with three phases with the cannal running two kilometers. Now the villagers are to use only 8 KV which can be used for lighting fifty households. The project cost Rs 5 lakhs which was funded by the CADWM( Common Area Development and Water Management) Others who spoke at the programme include Haitsau G B of Punglwa village, Dosa U Chairman, Medziphema Bowl WUAS Coordinating Committee, Twalu Pastor Baptist Church of Punglwa who said the invocation prayer.
Chief Engineer of I and ST, Er Kent presented the project profile while the Superintending Engineer of I and ST, T Yanger Ao gave the vote of thanks. It may be mentioned that an MOU was signed between the Punglwa Village Council and the Flood and Irrigation Department, where it was agreed that the Village Council will be fully responsible for the maintenance and utilization of the project.
