Call for urgent restoration of NH- 2 road
Kohima, August 20 (MExN): In view of the prevailing landslide and road disruption on National Highway-2 (Kohima-Mao stretch), the alternate road has become the only lifeline for majority of the Southern Angami areas and neighboring Manipur state.
The Phesama Youth Organisation (PYO) appealed the NHIDCL to expedite the restoration and recovery of the affected/sinking road and ensure that the repair work is carried out with proper engineering standards and quality materials so that a permanent solution to the problem can be achieved.

The PYO urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the authorities and strictly follow the temporary regulations.
The safety of passengers and the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities must remain the foremost priority until the main road is fully restored, it stated.
Meanwhile, the PYO in a release issued by its president Ketounei-o Zashumo and general secretary Neitho-o Tacü, appealed all concerned authorities, transporters, drivers and the general public to strictly adhere to the following measures in the larger interest of public safety and uninterrupted movement:
Regulation and 24×7 accessibility: Necessary rules and regulations have been put in place to ensure that the alternate road remains motorable and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as it has become a vital lifeline for the people of the Southern Angami areas and neighboring states.
Priority movement: Students, passengers, emergency vehicles and essential commodities, particularly food and other necessities, has been given priority passage through the alternate road.
To ensure safe access and sustain livelihoods by delivering essential commodities to residents beyond the landslide zone, movement of pick-up trucks and small commercial vehicles is permitted only at Morning: 4:00 AM–6:00 AM, Day time- 11:00 AM–1:00 PM and Evening: 7:00 PM–10: 00 PM.
Strict compliance with these timings and directions of local authorities is mandatory. Movement outside these hours is prohibited and will attract penalties under applicable regulations. This order remains in force until further notice.
Restriction on construction materials: The movement of heavy construction materials through the alternate road have been restricted temporarily in order to protect passengers and prevent further deterioration of the road.
Control of vehicle load: The carrying capacity of using the alternate road have been restricted to approximately 50% of their normal permissible capacity, particularly while transporting essential commodities, to reduce pressure on the road.
Strict action against drunk driving: Drunk driving will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Any person found driving under the influence of alcohol shall be liable for a fine and shall be barred from using the alternate road thereafter, as deemed appropriate by the concerned authority.
