Longleng, July 21 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Longleng has imposed immediate restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel, limiting purchases to a maximum of five litres per vehicle and prohibiting sale in jerry-cans or containers, following incessant rains that have damaged National Highways and completely cut off inter-district and intra-village connectivity.
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom NCS, stated that the restrictions are exigent to ensure equitable distribution and maintain essential supplies.

“The general public shall strictly adhere to the regulations issued by the district authority to avoid panic buying and hoarding of fuel,” the DC directed. The order shall remain in force until further notifications, it added.
The administration’s decision comes after heavy rainfall on July 19 triggered landslides, mudslides and flash floods, severely damaging road infrastructure along the Longleng-Changtongya, Longleng-Tamlu, Longleng-Aboi (Mon) and Longleng-Tuensang routes. The district is currently cut off from all sides, including the Tamul-Merangkong and Tamlu-Wakching stretches.
The District Administration, led by the Deputy Commissioner along with the Superintendent of Police, District Disaster Management Authority, PWD (R&B) and Dobashis of Longleng, inspected the affected areas on July 21.
According to damage reports, property, plantations and farmlands have been affected, though no loss of life has been reported. The DDMA and PWD (R&B) are currently in the process of clearing the roads, the administration said.
