Rejoinder to “Frustrating NNP President”

Apropos to the Letter to the Editor – “Frustrating NNP President” written by some youngsters namely, Justino, Dany and Mangainu from Gandhi Vihar, New Delhi which was published in the “The Morung Express” on 30th January 2007, the NNP wish to make our point clear for all concerned in order to clear all doubts.

The NNP boldly announce once again that neither the NNP nor its President is confused at all of its policy and ideology. The platform is opened to all Nagas as a Common Political Platform for the whole North East region. It has been working wholeheartedly for the interest of all Nagas, not just for a group. It is a legally registered political party with a clear vision for the future of the Nagas, specially for the welfare of the younger generation, including the writers themselves.

The Naga issue is political and therefore, should be solved through political movement. For this reason, all the Naga politicians need to be in a political home which is our own. We can not dream of shouting and working for the Nagas’ rights while we sit in the Indian political homes like the Congress, BJP etc. nor by shouting on the streets alone. The vexed Naga issue can not be handled by mass based non-political organisations like the UNC or any other Socio-Cultural organisations alone because these organisations are non-political and therefore can not function directly in selecting candidates and campaigning for any candidate under any election flag. It is in direct violation of the Constitution of all such organisations.

The mandate UNC enjoyed from the Nagas of Manipur was not for conducting Indian Election but to safeguard the true identity of the Nagas, our rights and our land through people’s movement. If any of the UNC leaders feel that they need to involve directly in Indian politics, they should have resigned from their positions and joined any political party. Holding the prestigious positions as leaders of UNC and campaigning for some individual under their election flag has tarnished the sanctity of the apex organisations.

If the writers or anyone do not understand the differences between political and social activities, they are all welcome to meet me for a better political class with special reference to Naga issue and its history. I, as the incumbent President of the Naga National Party (NNP), I am never confused but am very clear of what we the Nagas need to do in order to achieve our long cherished goal.

Underestimating a Naga leader who is working hard to uphold the rights of the Nagas just to meet your own vested interest during election is not a healthy attitude but will cost you very dearly. People only know how shallow your knowledge is about our own people, our history and the situation we live in. You can wait and watch for what will be the outcome of the UNC handling election. Even if some of their sponsored candidates get elected, let us see how effective they will be in the Assembly to push the Naga issue through. If they don’t get elected, will you be able to help the UNC retain its lost glory, sanctity and command respect from the people? I doubt. Even if you write hundreds of articles in the media, a time will come when even the most innocent Naga citizen will denounce the actions of the UNC which they have taken during the present election.

Let’s be careful and pray that it does not turn out like the story of the dog and the donkey, UNC is not authorised to speak as the NSCN (IM). People are made to be confused for having too many confused people like you; Nagas need constructive contributions from youngsters like you. Come forward with a clear mind; stop insulting and underestimating anyone, for the sake of a better and brighter Naga future.

Yours sincerely
Ng. Hungyo
President, NNP
