Zunheboto, August 1 (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto, located on the Lumami Campus of Nagaland University, is facing an imminent threat of destruction after a massive landslide washed away the retaining wall, farm road and farm gate of the office premises on July 31 morning, prompting immediate evacuation of staff.
Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist & Head of KVK Zunheboto, NU said the retaining wall of the compound was completely destroyed in the landslide, leaving no option but to relocate staff to the university’s main administrative building to ensure continuity of office work.
“The landslide has washed away the farm road and the farm gate too, leaving no choice but to shift the staff from the premises to the Main Administrative Building of the University to maintain continuity in the working of the office,” Dr Chaurasia said.
Following the incident, Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, along with the Registrar (In-Charge), the University Engineer, and other senior administrators, visited the site to assess the damage and review the situation, he added.
Dr Chaurasia also informed that the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Akuluto has been apprised of the prevailing conditions at the location.
Expressing grave concern, Dr Chaurasia warned that the landslide has already impacted the office building premises, and continued rainfall could result in the office being washed away entirely.
No injuries have been reported in the incident, which is believed to have been triggered by heavy rainfall in the region.
