Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): Chief Minister Nephieu Rio mourns the demise of Reverend Deo Vihienuo, who passed away from prolonged illness at Kohima yesterday evening. The reverend was the founding pastor of Union Baptist Church, Kohima and former State Chaplain.
“I heard the news, when I reached Dimapur after attending an official function in Peren district last evening. The sad news created a feeling of grief and emptiness for me and my family members, because he was not just our pastor, but he was a dear uncle and a close family member who was a father figure to all of us,” Rio stated in a message today.
“Late rev Deo Vihienuo was a true Christian leader who dedicated his entire life for the service of God and the Church. He had a charming and lovable character and could reach out to any person young and old with his loving nature,” Rio said.
Rio said the reverend’s demise is a huge loss for the church and its ministry and “a personal loss to me and all my family members.”
In Vihienuo’s demise, the chief minister said, the church in Nagaland has lost an inspirational and dedicated leader, a friend and mentor to hundreds and thousands of Christian believers. “The vacuum created by his passing away will be difficult to fill,” Rio said.
Late Vihienuo was from Chiechama village, Kohima district. He was born in 1935. The former State Chaplain leaves behind six children and seven grandchildren.

“He was not only our pastor but a close family friend and our spiritual mentor. Incidentally, my father was also one of the founding members of UBC and after my father’s death, late Rev,. Vihienuo became my spiritual father, and me and my family have received immense support from him and his family for all these years.”
“During all times of difficulty, joy and sorrow, he was always there for us. And I am sure, he was always there for all the Church members as much as he was there for us,” Rio stated.
