Chümoukedima, July 31 (MExN): Patkai Christian College on Friday hosted the launch of ‘The Heroics and Exploits of Mr. Ramesh, GT’, a social novella by Rüületo Vakha, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, at the Bundrock Chapel Auditorium.
The programme began with an invocation by Rev Dr Vichükho Ngukha, Chaplain of Patkai Christian College.
Presenting the Publisher's Note, Dr Lanusangla Tsudir said the publication addresses a wide range of contemporary social issues through its 52 chapters. She noted that the book encourages readers to "look more closely at the world around them," uncovering meaning in ordinary experiences through stories that are "insightful, witty, and deeply rooted in everyday realities." She also acknowledged graphic designer Jungshi for his contribution to the publication.
The book review was delivered by Dr Zulusenla, Admission Director of the college, who highlighted the novella's engagement with pressing social concerns. She said the work challenges readers to reflect critically on the complexities of everyday life while presenting its themes through an engaging narrative.
In his Author's Note, Vakha thanked his family, colleagues and students for their support throughout his writing journey. Explaining the inspiration behind the central character, he said, **"Mr. Ramesh"** represents a third- or fourth-generation settler in Nagaland, with the name carrying broader social significance within the story.
Describing the work as "a satirical, humorous, and deeply moving social novella," Vakha said it reflects contemporary society. He also stressed the importance of narration in sustaining readers' interest and clarified that the book is more accurately classified as a novella rather than a novel, comprising about 50,000 words.
The book was officially launched by retired senior faculty member Mrs Tiakhala J Shimray, who praised the author for his ability to transform ordinary experiences into compelling narratives. She also commended his quiet and gentle personality, saying those qualities are reflected in his writing.
The programme concluded with a closing prayer by Neibu Chüsi, Associate Pastor of Seitheke Basa Baptist Church.
According to the organisers, the launch marked a literary milestone for the college while reaffirming its commitment to promoting scholarship, creativity and meaningful engagement with society through literature.
