RPF nabs theft suspects, rescues passengers across NFR

Maligaon, March 22 (MExN):  The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has apprehended multiple theft suspects and provided timely assistance to passengers in distress across its network in recent operations.

According to a press release issued by the NFR, RPF personnel detected several cases of theft involving passenger belongings at key stations. On March 7, two persons were apprehended at Guwahati railway station with a stolen mobile phone valued at around Rs 10,000 and were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Guwahati.

Subsequently, on March 13 and 15, two separate offenders were apprehended at Lumding railway station with stolen mobile phones worth approximately Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 respectively, and handed over to GRP, Lumding. 

On March 14, one person was apprehended at Guwahati with a stolen mobile phone valued at around Rs 15,000 and was handed over to GRP, where cases were registered under relevant legal provisions.

Apart from crime detection, the RPF also extended medical assistance including shifting of a sick passenger at New Jalpaiguri railway station to Sadar Hospital, Siliguri on March 9, the release said.

On March 14, an unidentified injured person was rescued from the yard area and admitted to District Hospital, Siliguri, while another passenger suffering from breathing difficulties onboard a train was provided immediate assistance and taken to Railway Hospital, New Jalpaiguri.

Further, on March 17, an unidentified female passenger found in a semi-conscious condition at New Jalpaiguri railway station was attended to and shifted to the Railway Hospital for treatment.

The RPF continues to remain vigilant in ensuring passenger safety, security and well-being across its jurisdiction, the NFR added.
