RPF rescues minors, assists distressed passengers across NFR network

Maligaon, May 3 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has carried out a series of rescue operations across its jurisdiction, rescuing several vulnerable individuals, including runaway minors and distressed passengers, officials said on Sunday.

During the period from April 24 to April 30, RPF personnel rescued a significant number of minors and passengers in distress from various railway stations and trains.

In a major operation at Dibrugarh railway station, RPF personnel rescued 12 minor boys from a train and handed them over to Childline authorities for care and protection.

Similar rescue operations were conducted at multiple stations, including Guwahati, Lumding, Kishanganj, Kokrajhar, Hasimara, Mariani and New Alipurduar, where several runaway minor boys and girls were traced and rescued.

At Mariani railway station, three minor girls were rescued, while at Guwahati railway station, minors were safely reunited with their families following timely intervention by RPF personnel.
In separate instances, minors rescued at stations such as Kishanganj, Lumding, Dimapur and Kokrajhar were handed over to Child Helpline and other authorised agencies for safe custody and rehabilitation.

Apart from rescuing minors, RPF personnel also provided assistance to passengers in distress. At New Jalpaiguri, a passenger suffering from breathing difficulties was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.

In other incidents at Raiganj and Barsoi, injured passengers who suffered accidental falls were given timely medical aid, reflecting the alertness and prompt response of RPF staff.

Officials said the sustained efforts highlight the role of the RPF in ensuring passenger safety, preventing human trafficking, and safeguarding vulnerable individuals across the NFR network.

Northeast Frontier Railway reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and passenger-friendly environment, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to railway authorities.
