Maligaon, June 13 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) registered significant achievements in railway security and passenger safety through a series of operations conducted between June 9 and 10 across Assam, Bihar, Tripura, Nagaland and West Bengal, an official statement said.
According to the statement, RPF personnel detected 19 cases during the operations, leading to the recovery of 12.666 kg of ganja valued at over Rs 6.33 lakh, 279.21 grams of brown sugar worth more than Rs 55.84 lakh and 155 bottles of illicit liquor valued at around Rs 28,000.
The operations also resulted in the recovery of three stolen mobile phones worth approximately Rs 45,000, the apprehension of seven offenders, the rescue of eight minors, including five boys and three girls, and the provision of medical assistance to three passengers in distress.
In one of the major operations, RPF personnel, in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), apprehended one person at Badarpur Railway Station and recovered 279.21 grams of brown sugar valued at over Rs 55.84 lakh.
The accused was subsequently handed over to the GRP for further legal action under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Apart from enforcement activities, the RPF also extended prompt medical assistance to three passengers at New Jalpaiguri, Araria and Tinsukia railway stations. Through coordination with railway medical staff and local healthcare facilities, the injured passengers received immediate first aid and necessary medical treatment.
The Northeast Frontier Railway said the successful operations reflected the RPF's commitment to strengthening railway security, combating crime and ensuring passenger safety and welfare across its jurisdiction.
