RPF/NFR recovers over Rs 2.45 cr

Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) registered 3,081 cases under various sections of the Railways Act and prosecuted more than 3,000 offenders during April 2026 as part of its enforcement and security operations across the railway zone.

According to a press release issued by NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, RPF also assisted in ticket checking drives that led to the detection of 1,074 ticketless travellers and recovery of fines exceeding Rs 10 lakh.

The release stated that RPF/NFR detected 33 narcotics smuggling cases involving ganja, brown sugar and cough syrup collectively valued at over Rs 2.35 crore during the month. In addition, 15 persons were arrested in connection with illicit liquor smuggling cases.

In anti-touting operations, four touts were arrested and 47 railway tickets worth more than Rs 1.43 lakh were seized. The force also apprehended 32 persons involved in theft of railway property and recovered stolen railway materials valued at over Rs 2.10 lakh.

As part of passenger safety measures, RPF/NFR apprehended 28 persons involved in theft of passenger belongings and recovered stolen items, including 44 mobile phones worth more than Rs 6.19 lakh. Three persons involved in stone-pelting incidents on running trains were also arrested, while 16 illegal immigrants were apprehended during the month.

The release further stated that 113 left-behind luggage items worth around Rs 1.40 crore were recovered and returned to passengers after verification procedures. On average, 53 trains were escorted daily by RPF personnel across the zone to ensure passenger security.
