Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) has reported that a large number of officers and staff were absent from their place of posting during surprise inspections of government departments in Tseminyu district conducted between February 24 and March 6.
According to a press release issued by RSZ President Kegwayhun Tep and General Secretary Hiyalo Jemu, the organisation carried out the inspections to assess the functioning of offices and the attendance of officers and staff entrusted with public service.
“During the course of the inspection, the RSZ is deeply shocked and disappointed to observe that in many departments, a large number of officers and staff were absent from their designated place of posting,” the RSZ stated.
It further reported that some departmental offices were found closed during working hours. “In several instances, departmental offices were found to be completely closed with no responsible personnel present to attend to the needs of the public,” it said, adding that “such an irresponsible attitude towards duty is highly condemnable and reflects a serious lapse in administrative accountability.”
Following the findings, the RSZ cautioned officers and employees posted under Tseminyu district to remain sincere and regular in the discharge of their duties. “Being posted in the district should not be misconstrued as an opportunity for prolonged absence or personal engagements elsewhere,” the organisation stated.
It also stated that public offices exist to serve citizens and that negligence in duty affects public trust. “Public offices are meant to serve the people and any negligence in this regard directly undermines the welfare and trust of the citizens,” it added.
The RSZ further reminded officials that postings in the district carry responsibility towards the public. “The RSZ strongly reminds all concerned that postings in the district are not a holiday period or a vacation for personal work, but a responsibility to serve the public with dedication and commitment.”
Appealing to departments under the district administration, the organisation called for discipline and regular attendance. “In this regard, the Rengma Selo Zi appeals to all departments functioning under the district to maintain discipline, ensure regular attendance and extend the best possible services to the public,” it stated.
The RSZ also informed that a detailed report of the surprise visits would be submitted to the district administration for further review and action. “Further, the RSZ informs that a detailed report of the surprise visits will be submitted to the District Administration of Tseminyu District for necessary review and appropriate course of action,” the statement said.
“The RSZ reiterates our continued commitment to safeguarding public interest and ensuring that government institutions function effectively for the welfare of the people,” it added.
