Kohima, October 29 (MExN): As part of the week-long Pan-India School Awareness Campaign on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) conducted the Surakshit Bachpan Abhiyan Campaign at Bethel Higher Secondary School, Kohima on October 29.

Haiyale Kath, Advocate and Panel Lawyer, KDLSA, explained that “Surakshit Bachpan Abhiyan” means “Safe Childhood Campaign”, is pan-India school legal literacy and child safety initiative led by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) under the NALSA (Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children) scheme.

She stated that its primary objective is to protect children from exploitation, cybercrimes and sexual offences, and to build a secure environment where children can raise concerns without fear, stigma or victim-blaming, while bridging the information gap between school communities, the police and legal aid.

Nagali Shohe, Advocate and Retainer Lawyer, KDLSA, emphasised that a safe environment must be created where every child feels free to speak and stand for its right.
