WTI officials announced that the tournament will be held annually in different districts of Manipur and Nagaland to raise awareness about pangolin conservation.

As per a press release, Manipur and Nagaland are home to the critically endangered Chinese pangolin (Manis pentadactyla), protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and listed in Appendix I of CITES.

Pangolins, among the most trafficked mammals globally, play a crucial role in forest ecosystems by controlling ant and termite populations, aerating soil through their burrowing, and providing shelter for other animals.
