Sangtemla Ward set up title clash with Dilong after edging past Sungkomen

Former champions Sangtemla Ward secured a spot in the final of the 6th Mokokchung Inter-Ward Football Tournament 2025 after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Sungkomen Ward in the second semi-final at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Thursday.

In an intense contest, Sangtemla drew first blood in the 38th minute through Bapen, who slotted home the opening goal. However, Sungkomen responded swiftly, with Medemmar finding the back of the net in the 43rd minute to equalize, sending both teams into halftime level at 1-1.

The second half saw an early response from Sangtemla, as Opangtemjen regained the lead with a strike in the 48th minute. But Sungkomen, refusing to back down, fought their way back into the game, with Tarepnungsang netting the equalizer. With the match hanging in the balance, veteran R Achi delivered the decisive blow in the 65th minute, putting Sangtemla ahead once more.

Despite Sungkomen’s relentless efforts to push for another equalizer, Sangtemla’s defense held firm, securing them a place in the final.

With this victory, Sangtemla will now face Dilong Ward in the tournament final on April 5. Dilong, aiming for their maiden title, secured their spot after defeating Mongsenbai Ward in a dramatic penalty shootout in the first semi-final. The final promises to be a high-stakes contest as Sangtemla, winners of the 4th edition, look to reclaim their title, while Dilong eyes its first championship.
