Seminar on basic officiating procedures held in Longleng

Longleng, July 16 (MExN): A one-day seminar on basic officiating procedures in athletics was held on Thursday, organised by the office of the District Youth Resources & Sports Officer (DYRSO), Longleng, in collaboration with the Phom Sports Association (PSA).

Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the Longleng District Sports Council, W Manpai Phom, NCS, termed the initiative the “first step toward a bigger goal” and stressed the need for national and international-level resources to help district players compete at the highest level. He also called for identifying raw talent from rural areas and grooming them into professional athletes, stated a DIPR report. 

The seminar, held at the CMTC Hall, focused on creating public awareness and promoting athletic discipline in the district. Resource persons Neikuosielie and Bongshet Phom, both PETs, imparted training on track events, field events, starter procedures, and practical sessions.

The introductory programme began with an invocation by Finance Secretary PSA, B. Bomlei Phom, followed by a welcome address by PSA Vice President Hamnyei Angh. Chairperson of the District Sports Officer Longleng, Kenongoto Thokhwe, delivered the vote of thanks.

The programme was attended by all federating units of the Phom Area Sports Association.
