DIMAPUR, APRIL 11 (MExN): The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has met with the District Education Officer (DEO) of Kiphire to raise key concerns about government schools in Seyochung Village, including a lack of essential infrastructure and staff.

According to a press release from the Union, SVSU President Longtili C Sangtam met the DEO at her office and submitted two letters on behalf of the Union.

The first letter, the SVSU stated, “highlighted the lack of basic facilities at Government High School (GHS) Seyochung.” The union noted that “the school has no toilet or urinal, no water supply, and no staff quarters.” It also requested “the urgent appointment of a Science teacher.” The Union expressed its appreciation and “thanked [the DEO] for the recent posting of an Assistant Headmaster (AHM) at the school.”

In the second letter, the Union sought “permission to shift all materials from the Government Primary School to the Government Middle School (GMS) building for better coordination,” noting that “the GMS building is using presently for the daily school activities.” It also “proposed to use the Government High School building as temporary staff quarters due to the shortage of accommodation for teachers.”
The DEO, the Union said, “assured to look into the matters raised by the Union.”

SVSU President Longtili C Sangtam stated that “the Union will continue to work closely with the schools and authorities to ensure quality education and better facilities for the students and teachers of Seyochung Village.”
