Shanen FC confirmed their status as Group A topper with a commanding 4-1 victory over Khiamniungan Sports Council (KSC) in a tense group-decider match at Loyem Memorial Astro Turf, on November 8.
The decider began in breathless fashion when Nisede Peseyie gave Shanen FC an early spark, slotting the goal home in the 5th minute to silence the KSC and set the tone for an all-out game of thrill.
The visitors rallied after the break as Lemtsie pulled one back for KSC in the 50th but Shanen’s habitual attacking nature proved decisive. Longkhoi, who has been involved in several decisive moments this tournament, struck twice for Shanen FC in the 36th and 47th minutes to put the match beyond doubt while Ghuqhe Chishi added the fourth goal in the 61st minute and handed Shanen FC the top spot in Group A.
The result completed a consistent campaign for Shanen FC, finishing the group unbeaten after high-scoring wins throughout the tournament; from the 12-0 rout of Legit, to the resilient 3-1 comeback against Auyang and today’s composed 4-1 win against KSC.
KSC, who came into the day with momentum after their win over Auyang and Yungyangkhu, finish second in the Group A and have set their eyes up for a semi-final showdown against SP XI on Tuesday.
On the other hand, SP XI topped the Group B standings with their unbeaten ruthless run into the semis, while United Comets FC, after a late-drama win over Oilek that secured their second place in the Group B, joins SP XI in the last four.
