A residential building at Lower Bayavu Hill Colony, Kohima was burnt to ashes late Friday night.
Fire station North, Kohima officials informed that the fire was suspected to have originated due to short circuit.
“The first floor consisted of 4 rooms which had 2 guest rooms, a library and a ward robe room partitioned by plywood and an half open kitchen,” firemen involved in dousing off the fire informed. Fire was originated from the ward robe room due to short circuit and spread to the adjoining rooms, the officials added. The fireman however said due to quick response from both Kohima north and south fire station, the team was able to save the gas cylinders in the kitchen from catching fire which maybe at risk of spreading towards the adjoining buildings.
In addition, it was informed that the walls, glass and exterior electrical wiring of an adjoining building was partially affected.
As per the information gathered from the house owner this morning, an approx value of property loss was estimated to be Rs 20 lakhs.
