St Joseph University, Chümoukedima held its 5th convocation ceremony at the university campus on November 14.
CHÜMOUKEDIMA, NOVEMBER 14 (MExN): St Joseph University, Chümoukedima, held its fifth convocation ceremony at the university campus on November 14 with Dr Girish Patil S, Director, ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, as the special guest.
The ceremony marked the graduation of UG, PG and PhD students from more than 20 disciplines. Thirty-five graduates received gold medals, another 35 received silver medals and 16 were awarded PhD degrees.
The programme began with an academic procession followed by the National Anthem. Rev Fr Dr Michael Arockia Nathan, Rector, MMI Study House, delivered the invocation. The convocation was formally declared open by the Chancellor, Rev Fr Dr JE Arul Raj, after which Rev Sr Gnanaselvam DMI, DFT-Managing Trustee, delivered the welcome address.

Chief guest Dr Girish Patil S, delivering the convocation address, commended the university’s achievements in recent years. Quoting the Bhagavad Gita, he reminded the students that “you are your own friend and your worst enemy,” and called on them to continue competing and to remain socially responsible, saying concern for society “serves as the fuel to make you a better individual.”
Conferring the degrees on the graduates, he encouraged continued academic and ethical excellence.
According to the University, the fifth convocation reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and holistic education. It conveyed best wishes to the graduating students for their future endeavours.
Vice-Chancellor Dr D Gnanadurai presented the university report. Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocese and Pro-Chancellor, delivered the keynote address, urging graduates to embrace the future with courage and to learn from every experience.
Prof Charles Mhonthung Ezung, Dean of Student Affairs, proposed the vote of thanks. The ceremony concluded with the university anthem. The university choir presented a special song in honour of the graduates.
