Smoking banned in public areas across Dimapur

DIMAPUR, April 7 (MExN): The Dimapur DC has issued a directive banning smoking in all public spaces as part of a renewed push to enforce the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, and promote a tobacco-free environment. The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Hang, follows a unanimous resolution adopted during the 3rd and 4th quarterly review meetings of the District Level Coordination Committee under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP). Smoking in any form is now strictly prohibited in public places such as bus stations, train stations, airports, taxi stands, public waiting areas, markets, meeting halls, hospitals, government offices, and other shared spaces. The district administration reminded the public to comply with the ban, warning that violations will attract legal and disciplinary action. “This order is issued with the intent to promote a healthy and tobacco-free environment in our community,” it said.
