South Zone defeats North East Zone by 38 Runs; North Zone continues winning streak; West Zone beats East Zone by 7 Wickets

Chumoukedima, November 10 (MExN): South Zone defeated North East Zone by 38 run continuing their strong run in the ongoing Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy held at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima on November 10. 

A composed batting effort backed by the disciplined bowling attack ensured a convincing win for the southern side.

After being sent in to bat, South Zone put up a solid total of 149/6 in 20 overs. S A Lonkar anchored the innings with a steady 37 off 34 balls, while Sajana S provided late fireworks with a brisk 31 off just 15 deliveries, propelling her team past the 140 mark.

Chasing the 150 runs target, North East Zone showed resilience but fell short of the target. Najmeen Khatun (30 off 27 balls) and D D Dutta (30 off 29 balls) put up a strong fight with a valuable 60-runs partnership but regular breakthroughs from the South Zone’s bowling attack restricted the scoring momentum.  

Asha S stood tall for South Zone with the ball as she returned with exceptional match-winning figures of 3/11 in 4 overs, while her teammates maintained tight lines to ensure victory. Sajana S of the South Zone was awarded the ‘player of the match’ for her contribution of 31 off 15 balls with the bat.

In the second match of the day, North Zone continued their impressive run in the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy, with a commanding 6-wicket victory over Central Zone at the Nagaland Cricket Ground, Sovima.

A dominant batting display led by Shweta Sehrawat’s explosive half-century guided North Zone to a comfortable chase.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Central Zone posted a total of 127/6 in 20 overs. D D Kasat played a composed knock of 48 off 47 balls, while Anushka Sharma added a steady 43 off 39, ensuring their side reached a defendable total.

In reply, North Zone made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 16.3 overs.

Shweta Sehrawat was in sublime form, smashing a match-winning 62 off 32 balls, combining elegance with power while S M Singh provided solid support with 34 off 29, helping North Zone maintain complete control of the chase.

North Zone’s victory further strengthens their campaign in the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy 2025, showcasing their depth and balance across departments as the tournament progresses in Sovima.

In the final match of the day, West Zone continued their winning momentum in the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy with a commanding 7-wicket victory over East Zone at the Nagaland Cricket Ground, Sovima. 

The match featured an explosive batting display from K P Navgire, complemented by a composed half-century from Humairaa Kaazi, as West Zone comfortably chased down the target.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, East Zone posted 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

T Sarkar (32 off 23) and Tanmayee Behera (31 off 24) led the charge with positive intent, while Mita Paul (28 off 35) provided valuable support in the middle order.

For West Zone, Ishita Khale was the standout performer with the ball, delivering an exceptional 3/17 in 4 overs, while Kesha (2/20) and A A Patil (2/25) kept the pressure on throughout the innings.

In reply, West Zone made light work of the chase, reaching the target with four balls to spare.

K P Navgire once again proved her prowess with a blistering 48 off 23 balls, setting the tone early in the innings. She was well supported by Humairaa Kaazi, who anchored the chase with a fluent 50 off 44 balls to see her side home with ease.
