Stockiest accused of withholding relief rice, WSRPU files complaint

•    Ten villages under Satoi Block yet to receive rice under disaster relief
•    Union calls for terminating contract, blacklisting of stockiest and transporter

Dimapur, July 30 (MExN):  The Western Satoi Range Public Union (WSRPU) has filed a complaint with the Advisor, Food and Civil Supplies(FCS), against stockiest and transporter M/S T & P Enterprise for allegedly failing to distribute rice under disaster relief to beneficiaries of ten villages under Satoi Block.

According to the Union, the ten villages are eligible for 268 quintals of disaster relief rice, which the stockiest and transporter is allegedly ‘keeping in his godown, for reasons unknown to the Department officials’.

In the complaint, appended by WSRPU President Newto K Zhimo and General Secretary Puloto T Aye, the Union urged the Advisor to send the assigned rice within 15 days, in the interest of the beneficiaries of Satoi Block and the general public.

The Union further called upon the Advisor to blacklist and terminate the contract of M/S T & P Enterprise for allegedly "looting the poor beneficiaries" and withholding the rice.

To support its allegations, the WSRPU provided official documents showing that the Tide Over Rice (Relief Rice Drought 2021) was dispatched and received by the Department on September 28, 2021.

On March 9, 2023, “transport and supplies charges” amounting to Rs. 1082400 were paid to the transporter (M/S T & P Enterprise), it stated.

On July 6, the  Assistant Director of FCS Zunheboto informed the WSRPU in a letter that the transporter has already received the rice.

The WSRPU highlighted to the Advisor that despite repeated appeals to the Department, District Administration, and supplier (M/S T & P Enterprise) regarding the distribution of rice under Disaster Relief, the beneficiaries of ten villages under Satoi Block have yet to receive their due share.

The Union accused the supplier of irresponsibility and lackadaisical attitude, and of giving false assurances to the WSRPU on several occasions. It also charged the supplier of ‘scamming and looting the rice meant for the poor beneficiaries of Satoi Block.’

Accordingly, the  WSRPU demanded that the relief rice be sent to the ten villages within 15 days, and that the contract of the stockiest and transporter be terminated and blacklisted.

Meanwhile, the FCS Director, based on the WSRPU’s letter dated July 12, has directed M/S T & P Enterprise on July 27 to “dispatch the said quantity as allotted to Satoi Administrations for drought - 2021 at the earliest” and submit an action taken report.
