Sonshang FC stormed into second place in the Tuensang District Football Association (TDFA) League table with a commanding 9-2 victory over Fusion FC in Match No. 13 at the Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground on Saturday.
Wongto Sekum, who walked away with the man of the match award, led the rout with four goals, striking in the 4th, 7th, 52ndand 53rdminutes. His teammate and coach, Himjai, stepped out of the dugout and onto the field as a striker, netting a hat trick with goals in the 13th, 24thand 48thminutes. Hanglen added another just before halftime in the 44thminute while Hongkin Yemjong sealed the win in the 89th. Consolation goals for Fusion came from Ahose and Lemba in the 20th and 77th minutes.
Fusion FC, who remain winless this season, struggled to contain Sonshang’s relentless attack. Their goalkeeper endured a torrid outing, unable to prevent the flurry of goals as the side slumped to yet another heavy defeat, extending their league-worst goal deficit and anchoring them firmly at the bottom of the standings.
The result lifts Sonshang into second place, overtaking SoyemSangya temporarily until the next round of fixtures.
TVSF tighten grip at the top
In Match No. 14 later in the day, leaders Tuensang Village Sports Foundation (TVSF) continued their perfect run with a clinical 4-0 win over Soyem Sangya in a much-anticipated clash between the league’s top two sides.
Ayenmongba, fresh from winning the Golden Boot at the recently concluded Dr T Ao Trophy, opened the scoring in the 6thminute before turning provider three minutes later, setting up Chongshen to double the lead. Chongshen struck again in the 33rdbefore Ayenmongba completed his brace a minute later, putting the game beyond reach by halftime.
Soyem pressed hard in the second half, carving out multiple opportunities, but TVSF’s backline proved unbreachable. Right-back Chaang drew plaudits for his tireless defending, earning the man of the match honor after repeatedly shutting down Soyem’s forays.
With the win, TVSF sit firmly at the top with 12 points from four matches, maintaining their 100 percent record. Soyem, who began the day in second, slipped to third after back-to-back loss and draw against fellow title contenders.
The TDFA League resumed this weekend after a two-week break from July 27 to August 15 for the Dr T Ao Trophy, in which several league players represented Tuensang.
The league continues Monday with Winzig Konigz facing Naga Brothers in the opening match, followed by Auyang FC taking on Rise of Strangers in the second.
