The onset of cell phones has made life convenient for each and every one of us. Unlike our ancestors, we now have the luxury to communicate with friends and families within a matter of seconds. However, having access to this kind of technology also comes with a great cost, for instance the usage of Social Media.

Though the ideal way of keeping in touch with loved ones is via platforms like social media. Yet, it would be wise to consider its negative impacts in our daily life. Firstly, it awakens a feeling of depression within the youths of our generation. Men and women on social media are depicted as flawless beings, their physique comparable to that of a model and their appearance completely devoid of fats and wrinkles. Ultimately, it gives us a false picture of reality and in turn compels the young ones to imitate them. In doing so they realise they will never be what they see and thus, eventually falls into depression. Secondly, it gives us an unrealistic expectation about reality. Most often, we see couples sharing wonderful adventures they might have had or even a unique cuisine they recently tried out. Although, these are great ways of letting the folks know that you are well, it really does not present a true picture of reality. The couples might possibly be in a toxic relationship or even be packed with debts they cannot pay back. Moreover, apps like Snapchat enables us to share all kinds of heavily staged photos which quite frankly means that you have no idea whether it's real or fake. Thirdly, it can destroy our sleeping patterns. In the present case scenario, we are more likely to spent time copped up inside our homes, scrolling through the pages of our feeds rather than moving out of our comfort zone and making genuine friends. We are more likely to spent surplus time on our accounts because of various reasons like the need for seeking validation on the internet and possibly the fear of missing out. You might be constantly checking your phone for new text, new invites, the amount of likes you are getting and so on. These tendency turns into an obsession which eventually kills your ambitions and goals. In the most probable case, you wake up exhausted which further weaken the way you function daily.

Technology has changed the way we communicate, live and see the world. However, it is vital to know that a virtual life can never replace reality. Ultimately, social media has both its negative and positive aspects. With some of the key negative impacts highlighted, it is up to us to decide whether such a powerful tool can make or break our lives.
