Third suspect arrested in minor sexual abuse case

A third suspect has been arrested by the police in connection to the sexual abuse of a minor. While there was no official confirmation from the police, sources revealed that an unnamed man was taken into custody on June 6. 

The case came to light on May 23. As initially reported by The Morung Express, a police complaint was was subsequently filed on May 25.  The case was registered under Sections 64, 65, 71 and 74 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)/Indian Justice Code, and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The police had arrested the first accused, Watimeren Jamir alias O Wati Jamir on May 27 after he surrendered to the police. He initially applied for anticipatory bail, which was revoked following his surrender. The second accused, Tsuktimongba was arrested on May 31 from Dimapur. They are said to be cousins. 

The police originally registered the case under Sections 64, 65, 71 and 74 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)/Indian Justice Code, and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 

The victim, in her teens, was allegedly sexually abused over an extended period of time. Since the case came to light, the victim has been placed under the care Child Welfare Committee.
