Three boxers from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Chukitong, Wokha, secured medals at the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) National Boxing Championship 2026 held at JNV Vadnagar, Mehsana district, Gujarat, from August 18 to 21.
Rhanben S. Lotha won the silver medal in the Under-14 Boys 42–44 kg category. He defeated Shayed of Pune Region in the quarter-final and Chatrapal of Bhubaneswar Region in the semi-final before losing to Anshuman of Lucknow Region in the final.
Benathung M. Tsopoe secured bronze in the Under-14 Boys 44–46 kg category. He defeated Akshay of Hyderabad Region in the pre-quarter-final and Amritraj of Patna Region in the quarter-final before losing to Ankur of Lucknow Region in the semi-final.
Emmanuel Y. Ezung won bronze in the Under-14 Boys 32–34 kg category after defeating Luv Kush of Bhopal Region in the quarter-final and losing to Hemchandra of Hyderabad Region in the semi-final.
For all three boxers, the championship marked their first national-level appearance. They qualified after winning gold medals at the Regional Boxing Meet held at Barpeta, Assam, in April 2026.
A total of 49 boxers represented the Shillong Region at the national championship, with the region securing eight gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals. Eight boxers from JNV Chukitong represented the Shillong Region: Sujamo M. Tsanglao, Limhathung Yanthan, Emmanuel Y. Ezung, Erenthung Tungoe, Rhonjanthung M. Jami, Rhanben S. Lotha, Benathung M. Tsopoe and Zaremo Odyuo. Three of the eight JNV Chukitong boxers secured medals.
The team was accompanied and trained by Bikash Jyoti Bora, Physical Education Teacher, JNV Chukitong, Wokha.
Principal Dr. Bijay Kumar Gupta congratulated the players for their performance and expressed gratitude to Bora for his dedication and efforts in training the students. He said that eight students had been selected for the national championship and expressed happiness that three of them returned with medals. He further expressed hope that the young boxers would continue to perform well and bring greater laurels to the school in the future.
