Tokheli Kikon elected as NVC chairperson for second term

DIMAPUR, MARCH 26 (MExN): Incumbent chairperson of the Naharbari Village Council (NVC), Dimapur Tokheli Kikon was selected for a second term to helm the affairs of the village on Saturday, March 26. Kikon was selected unopposed for the term 2010-15.  It is to be noted that Kikon is the first woman in Nagaland to head a village council. Kikon will be assisted by Zakir Hussain as the council secretary
Addressing media persons at her residence today, Kikon vowed to give her best for the welfare of Naharbari village in her second term. “I’m not perfect but they (the villagers) have selected me, I’m happy. I will do my best for the welfare of the village.” Laying down her priorities Kikon said that two of her main objectives will be to campaign for upgrading the Naharbari government primary school and converting the Padum Pukhri (pond) into a public recreational space.
The Naharbari village council said that the election was conducted according to the directive of the government of Nagaland. The election was overseen by head GB (‘gaon burrah’) Ganjalal Mech who was assisted by GBs Mapuchuba and Yehozu.
