Cultivate positive attitudes: Dawhuo

The Thenyizumi Students’ Union Kohima (TSUK) has organised its 31st General Session cum Freshers’ Social 2026 at Baptist High Auditorium Kohima with Kenesa Dawhuo, commandant 10th NAP (IR) Battalion Zhadima as the guest speaker.
Addressing the gathering, Dawhuo congratulated the freshers on their achievements and said the new phase of their lives should serve as a stepping stone towards scaling greater heights and shouldering greater responsibilities.
He encouraged the students to develop their mentality and personality as they moved from one milestone to another, while stressing the need for regular self-assessment and self-awareness.
Dawhuo described student life as a significant and crucial phase in which individuals can make important decisions regarding their careers and future.
He said students have the time, energy, capacity and talents to determine the future course of their lives and therefore should make the best use of the opportunities available to them, irrespective of their circumstances. He reminded the students that their primary responsibility was academics and studies, which should be accorded the highest priority.
He called upon them to cultivate positive attitudes and determination in pursuing their education and goals. Dawhuo said students should avoid the tendency to seek immediate satisfaction and instead develop the discipline to wait for greater rewards.
He stressed that restraint and discipline cultivated during student life would prove rewarding in the long run. Speaking on the growing influence of technology, he observed that the world has moved rapidly into the internet and artificial intelligence era.
He noted that technological advancement has reached a stage where it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between original and AI-generated content. While acknowledging the convenience of technology, he cautioned that excessive dependence on it could discourage logical and independent thinking, with technology increasingly capable of assisting people and performing tasks autonomously. In this, he advised the students to make judicious use of technology, particularly as a tool to support their studies and broaden their understanding.
Dawhuo further cautioned against technology becoming a mindless source of temporary pleasure, saying social media and attention-capturing technologies have increasingly occupied people's minds and could contribute to anxiety and confusion. He stressed that navigating the digital environment requires a high degree of self-awareness and regular self-assessment. He also called upon students and professionals to give back to society through their services and resources, describing it as a responsibility towards strengthening the community.
Thenyizumi Village Council chairman Zhothiyi Dawhuo shared greetings and called upon its citizens to live with humility and excellence. In presidential address, TSUK president Er. Vede Dawhuo congratulated the students and achievers in various fields. During the achievers' talk, Kepozo Kapuh encouraged the students to recognise the opportunities around them instead of becoming overly focused on a single goal.
Kapuh also urged the students not to be afraid of making mistakes or failing, saying mistakes provide opportunities to learn, identify areas for improvement and become better in one's chosen field. He encouraged them to make use of opportunities and not take life for granted.
The education and statistical report was presented by Akhone Nienu, while Vetshelu Thisa delivered a speech on behalf of the freshers.
A new team of TSUK office bearers for the 2026-27 tenure was also installed, with Sevosalu Resu as president, Vedecuyi Rokha as vice president, Vevosu Thisa as general secretary and Kevedu Rhakho as assistant general secretary, among others. The new executives were declared by Medozo Dawhuo, convenor of the Nomination Committee.
A prayer for the freshers and new executives was offered by Vekhoto Thisa, chairman of TCFK. The programme was led by Vevoto Kapuh, while Khriesazo Rhakho, associate pastor of Chakhesang CRC, Upper PWD, Kohima invoked God’s blessings. Other highlights of the session; included a folk song by Thenyizumi Women Society and a special song by Keluvelu Thisa.
Ajopuh Swuro proposed the vote of thanks, while the programme concluded with the benediction by Nuhuta Dawhuo, chairman of Bethesda Prayer and Healing Ministry.
