The twin babies found at the river near Jakhama. Also seen is the mother of the babies
Kohima, October 17 (MExN): In a delayed report, twin newborn babies were found dumped on the river near Jakhama GREF camp by a teenager girl identified as Quibul Begum on 9 October. The news came to light when some persons informed the residents of that area about the babies and subsequently on enquiry the villager identified the lady who later admitted to her deed.
Sources said, the accused disclosed the babies are of unknown father and she rushed to GREF camp to deliver the twin baby girls on 8 October. She was sent to Khuzama Police Station. However the police refused to keep the mother as she was excessively bleeding. She was then reportedly taken by her relative (GREF laborers) who promised to sent her (accused) back to police station on her recovery.
Meanwhile the Jakhama Women Society (JWS) vehemently denounced the merciless and inhuman act of Quibul Begum for destroying human life, particularly the manner in which the babies were thrown like any disposal waste into the river which shows total disregard for life.
A condemnation letter received here, issued by its chairperson, Hovisale Khatso and general secretary Hokehiele Kharütso stated that the JWS is deeply pained and shocked to learn about the barbarous act of Begum and demanded the officer in charge of the camp to apologize to the public for allowing a camper to commit such shameful act within its camp. JWS further warned that the society will not tolerate any crimes be it now or in future and appealed for condemnation from all the right thinking citizens.
