Unemployment problem a major concern: Dr. Lotha

Kohima, June 17: While acknowledging that the problem of unemployment in Nagaland is  posing a colossal problem, Minister for Health & Family Welfare Dr. T.M. Lotha today nevertheless assured that the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) has been trying its best to connect the educated unemployed youth through various job-oriented packages.

“Unemployment problem is major concern for the state and all of us,” he said.

Flagging off the Army Recruitment Rally (for soldier general duty/technical/ clerk/ SKT/ nursing assistant/tradesmen) here today, the minister informed that the government has sponsored and designed numerous programmes in the form of training and vocational courses for Naga youths as part of addressing the unemployment problem.

Today, several youth have joined reputed private companies in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, he said adding that they are doing “extremely well.” Some of them have even found placement  abroad, he continued.

Terming the army recruitment rally as a golden opportunity and a challenge, he called upon the Naga youths to come forward and serve the nation.

By joining the Indian army, DR Lotha said, it is  not only employment opportunities but “you will also get an opportunity to serve the nation.” Dr. Lotha also encouraged them to be fully prepared physically and mentally to face the challenges ahead. 

Saying that Naga youths  are “strong, brave and intelligent,” he urged them to change their mindset and exhibit their hidden talents.

Stating that the time has come to harness their immense potential, he continued “You can compete with any people in the country.” 

Parliamentary secretary, Parliamentary Affairs &  Power, Doshehe Y. Sema also spoke on the occasion. Col. Amrit Khanna, Director Recruiting (Nagaland and Manipur) pronounced the opening remarks while Brigadier JC Kushalappa, Deputy Director General Recruiting (Army Headquarters), Delhi, briefed the  aspirants of the rally.

Kohima Deputy Commissioner Ramakrishnan, IAS, SP Kohima, Martin Pienyu, Secretary Youth Resources and Sport KT Sukhalu, Brig. GN Mathur, Deputy Director General Recruiting (North East States), Brig. HGV Singh, 5 Sector, Commander Assam Rifles, Lt. Col. SI Jakhalu (Retd), Secretary Raiya Sainik Board, Kohima, Col. A. Das, Lt. Col. Sati, Officiating CO 26 Assam Rifles and others attended the flagging-off function.

The rally attracted a large number of candidates from different parts of the state. The rally, being held under the aegis of Branch Recruiting Office, Rangapahar, will go on till June 19 at Kohima Local Ground.  Similar events will also be conducted at Zunheboto from June 21 to 22.
