Wildlife seized by Peren forest division

Dimapur, March 13 (MExN): The patrolling party of Jalukie Forest Range of Peren Forest Division seized 12 birds, three squirrels and one live tortoise on March 12, 2011 at Jalukie and afterwards, the dead wildlife materials were burned at the office complex of SDO(C) Jalukie in the presence of SDO(C) Jalukie Jamithung, OC  Police Station Jalukie, Forest Range Officer Rampaukai and a host of representatives from the major NGO's of Jalukie denouncing the killings of wildlife for short term personal gains.
A press note issued by Samuel Changkija, IFS, DFO Peren stated that efforts are on for the trans-locating of the live tortoise to the Rangapahar Zoological Park at Dimapur. It is important to mention that in spite, of the ban of hunting in Peren District by the District Administration, there are still some stray incidents of hunting. Peren Forest Division hence, will like to appeal to all to discourage hunting of wildlife so that our rich and beautiful biodiversity is preserved for the benefit of all.
