Workshop on initiatives for simplifying Aadhaar usage in Kohima

Kohima, February 20 (MExN): Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Regional Office Guwahati organised a state level workshop on ‘recent initiatives for simplifying Aadhaar usage’ at Kohima on February 20.

According to a press release received here, speaking on the occasion, Cmde Dhiraj Sareen, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Regional Office Guwahati highlighted the significance and implications of Aadhaar as a tool for empowerment and a symbol of inclusivity. Commenting on the initiative launched in 2009, he stated that Aadhaar aims to provide every individual with a unique, verifiable identity. He further brought out how this has been instrumental in ensuring that even the most marginalized have access to various Government services, subsidies and benefits. He assured UIDAI’s continuous support to the state for improving ‘Ease of Living’ in Nagaland.

Addressing the audience, chief guest Abhijit Sinha, IAS, Home Commissioner, highlighted the role of Aadhaar in delivering Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes to genuine and intended beneficiaries. He also stated that with the introduction of Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS), hundred percent transparencies in delivering the services have been achieved.

Col Abhishek Koushik, Director appreciated the initiatives taken by the Nodal Department (O/o Commissioner) in achieving an upward trend in Aadhaar saturation and also highlighted key areas to be addressed for achieving greater saturation. Directorate of Land Records, Government of Assam also shared their success stories on “Authentication” by onboarding in to the UIDAI ecosystem.

Officials from Head Office UIDAI, DBT Mission and NPCI also made detailed presentations on Aadhaar usage. The presentations wereabout delivery of subsidies/benefits under Section-7 of Aadhaar Act 2016usingDBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) and Aadhaar enabled Payment Systems (AePS). It was also highlighted that Aadhaar authentication facilities can be availed by the entities for good Governance underSection 4(4)(b)(ii) of Aadhaar Act 2016. Benjamin Longkap, ADC, O/o Commissioner Nagaland also shared some highlightson Aadhaar enrolment activities of the state.

The workshop ended with vote of thanks by Kapil Jambhulkar, Director, UIDAI, RO, Guwahati.
