WSH, WSKH urge ceasefire between GoI and NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu)

Chümoukedima, November 3 (MExN): The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) and Western Sümi Kukami Hoho (WSKH) have welcomed the recent peace talks between NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) and Myanmar’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC).

In a joint statement dated October 31, the two organisations expressed their wholehearted support for the talks held in Nay Pyi Taw on October 22, and called for similar peace efforts between the Government of India (GoI) and the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) and  initiate a formal ceasefire.

The organisations said a cessation of hostilities was essential for long-term stability and socio-economic progress across Naga-inhabited areas. They stressed that the need for a truce was greater than ever, citing the strain decades of conflict had placed on border communities and its impact on infrastructure development, trade and public welfare.

Emphasising the importance of inclusive dialogue, the WSH and WSKH stated that lasting peace could not be achieved in isolation and required all active groups to be brought into constructive engagement.

The organisations appealed to New Delhi and the NSCN-K (AM) leadership to exercise political foresight and enter into a formal ceasefire agreement. They said an official truce would be a significant step towards regional harmony, ending armed confrontation and creating an inclusive environment for political reconciliation.

Reiterating their commitment to genuine peace initiatives, the two organisations urged both sides to act in the greater interest of the Naga people.
