WSSU raises concern over tobacco violations

DIMAPUR, MARCH 26 (MExN): The Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) has expressed strong opposition to the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions and medical establishments, as well as the advertisement of tobacco products through hoardings and newspapers. The Union has stated that such practices violate the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003.

In a statement, the WSSU noted that it had formally approached the relevant authorities to request that actions violating the Act be stopped. However, the Union claimed that both the administration and concerned departments have consistently ignored these requests. As a result, the WSSU has warned that it will take further action within 48 hours if the issue is not addressed.
