WTC bans open butcher shops in Wokha; designates 3 sites

Wokha, May 29 (MExN): The Wokha Town Council (WTC) has banned all open butcher shops operating within its jurisdiction, except for indoor shops maintaining specified hygiene standards. Accordingly, the Council has designated three locations for butchering activities in the town, a decision it said was taken to ensure hygienic practices and organised market spaces.The approved sites are WTC Slaughterhouse, PWD Colony; Mentchu, Wokha Village; and Forest Colony.

An official order issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Executive Officer WTC, Renbomo Ezunghas directed all existing open butcher shops operating within the Council’s jurisdiction to relocate their operations to the newly locations by July 5.

Further, in line with a Government of Nagaland directive, butcher shops operating along the National Highway will also be prohibited from the same date, it said. Urging strict compliance, the order stated that defaulters will face action as per the provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023.
