YAA to host Toshi Wungtung Memorial Football Tournament

Kohima, August 17 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) on Sunday announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dokiu Kecham and family to organize the “Toshi Wungtung Memorial Football Tournament,” an event instituted in memory of late Toshi Wungtung.

In a communiqué, YAA said the tournament would honour the legacy of Wungtung, whose contributions to society had a “lasting impact.”

The inaugural edition of the tournament will be fully sponsored by Dokiu Kecham and family with a contribution of     Rs 5 lakh. From subsequent editions, the financial arrangement will be shared, with the sponsor contributing 60 per cent and YAA contributing 40 per cent for a period of two years.

“The objectives of this partnership are multifaceted and far-reaching. Primarily, the tournament aims to provide a platform for teams to showcase their skills, thereby promoting football excellence and talent,” the communiqué stated.

It said the tournament also seeks to foster community engagement and participation by encouraging spectatorship and involvement in the tournament. “Furthermore, the partnership endeavours to instil a spirit of sportsmanship and fair play amongst participants, thereby promoting a positive and respectful sporting environment,” it added.

According to YAA, the inaugural edition will be exclusively for federating units of the organization. In subsequent editions, open participation will be considered for interested football clubs from both within and beyond the federating units, “thereby promoting inclusivity and diversity.”  “We are delighted to partner with Dokiu Kecham & family and look forward to a successful partnerships,” YAA president Keyoungkhum said.
