The Zunheboto District Badminton Association (ZDBA) organised the 3rd Pre-Tuluni Badminton Tournament & Feast at the Indoor Stadium, Zunheboto, on June 27. The tournament attracted 80 players competing in 40 teams across four categories Under (U)-19 Girls, U-19 Boys, Veteran (45+) and Men's Doubles.
Speaking on the occasion, ZDBA President Kihika G Sumi said, “The tournament was organised as part of the Pre-Tuluni celebrations to showcase the cultural significance of the Tuluni Festival through sports.” The association envisioned the event not merely as a competition but as an opportunity to strengthen community bonds and inspire young people to embrace both sportsmanship and their cultural heritage, he added.
The tournament was guided by three key objectives “To keep the spirit of sportsmanship alive among the youth, to encourage and nurture junior and upcoming badminton players, and to preserve the rich Sumi culture and traditions for future generations.”
Describing the initiative as “sports with purpose and culture with a heartbeat,” Sumi said that the ZDBA remains committed to creating avenues where young people can excel in sports while staying deeply rooted in their cultural identity. He expressed hope that the annual Pre-Tuluni tournament would continue to grow in the years ahead and serve as a meaningful platform for promoting healthy lifestyles, youth development, and the preservation of Sumi traditions.
The tournament concluded with a feast and fellowship among players.
