Following the recent order issued by the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) suspending pork trade and pig transportation in view of the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in the state, a joint inspection drive was conducted across Zunheboto Town early morning on May 27.
The inspection was carried out by the Zunheboto Town Council in collaboration with the District Administration, District Veterinary Office, Police, and Dobashis (DBs). During the inspection, all butcher shops and pigs meant for slaughter were thoroughly checked and tested for ASF.
According to officials, no positive ASF case was detected during the inspection. Veterinary authorities confirmed that all pigs tested negative and were subsequently permitted for slaughter and sale within the town.
The inspection team further informed that no new batch of pigs would be allowed to enter Zunheboto Town until further orders are issued by the competent authorities as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the disease.
The inspection drive was headed by EAC Headquarters Zunheboto, Akumlong Amer.
Earlier, the ZTC had imposed an immediate suspension on the sale, supply, slaughter, storage, transportation, and import of pork, pork products, and live pigs within the town following growing concerns over ASF outbreaks reported in various districts of the state.
