The Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) on Wednesday convened a coordination meeting with bakery owners operating under Zunheboto town at the ZTC office.
The meeting was chaired by the Councillor In-charge of Trade and Commerce, ZTC, Kakheho Yeptho, during which several key resolutions were adopted to ensure food safety, public health and support for local entrepreneurs.
The Council resolved that all bakery products must strictly display and maintain accurate manufacturing and expiry dates. It was further emphasised that only quality bakery products should be sold to consumers, keeping public health and safety as a priority.
In a move aimed at promoting self-reliance and supporting local businesses, the Council encouraged the sale of bakery products manufactured by local entrepreneurs. Bakeries functioning under the jurisdiction of the Zunheboto Town Council were directed to procure products such as cookies, bread, cakes and other bakery items from local manufacturers. However, in cases where such products are not available within the town, bakeries have been encouraged to source them from other districts.
The Council also stressed the importance of maintaining strict health and hygiene protocols by both manufacturers and sellers. All bakery product manufacturers have been directed to strictly adhere to the guidelines laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Act, 2006, to ensure the availability of safe and nutritious food for consumers.
Additionally, the Council resolved that fresh bakery items such as bread, cakes and cookies must be regularly checked to ensure hygienic and safe consumption.
Warning of strict action, the Council stated that failure to comply with the directives would invite penalties as per the provisions of the Municipal Act.
